Walk for Life 2012 Update

New Location and Route for Walk for Life 2012!
Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 12:30 pm
WFL LOCATION CHANGE
We have very important news and changes to announce this year for the upcomingWalk for Life West Coast. Because of scheduling conflicts that were beyond our control, we will have a whole new venue and route this year. So instead of our usual meeting place at Justin Herman Plaza, this year we will gather at Civic Center Plaza in front of City Hall.
RALLY
The Rally will be held at Civic Center Plaza from 12:30 – 1:30 pm. Our confirmed speakers include: African-American pro-life activist Mrs. Lori Hoye; obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Vansen Wong; the Reverend Clenard Childress, Director of L.E.A.R.N.; and Ms. Jacquie Stalnaker, a post-abortive woman and Silent No MoreRegional Coordinator.
ROUTE
After the Rally (at 1:30 pm), we will begin walking from Civic Center Plaza and will process down Market Street to end at Justin Herman Plaza at the Embarcadero. The Walk from Civic Center Plaza to Justin Herman Plaza is approximately 1.8 miles.
INFO FAIRE
The Info Faire will be held prior to the Rally at Civic Center Plaza. This will give everyone the chance to visit the booths as they arrive at Civic Center Plaza.  The Info Faire will be open from 11:00am – 12:30 p.m.
For those who wish to participate as a vendor, please sign up using our registration form as soon as possible.
BUSES
We ask that you register your buses as soon as possible. This will greatly aid us in facilitating the movement of the buses.  There are already 58 buses coming from the Sacramento area alone, so please register the buses for your groups as soon as possible.   All of the buses will drop off the participants at Civic Center Plaza, and then park at AT&T Park
From Justin Herman Plaza, it is an additional 1.1 miles to walk to AT&T Park. This new route from Civic Center Plaza to AT&T Park is slightly shorter than our past route from Justin Herman Plaza to the Marina Green.
We will provide shuttle buses to take people from Justin Herman Plaza to AT&T Park.  Other options available to reach AT&T Park are public transportation, trolleys, and cabs.
Ending at Justin Herman Plaza this year gives people the opportunity to shop, rest, and eat at the various restaurants throughout the area.  As another transportation option, BART is also available at Justin Herman Plaza.
MASS
There will be a 9:30 am Walk for Life Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral at 1111 Gough St., San Francisco. All priests are welcome to concelebrate.

2012 Event Update

Dear Friends for Life,

This year's Walk for Life Youth Rally called on young people to be active advocates for life in the public arena. We provided different ways one could be involved in defending the sanctity of human life because we know one size doesn't fit all. Thanks to your support and participation, Walk for Life Youth Rally was a huge success. Now, in order to do this again we need your help . . .

Earlier this year over 3,000 high-school and college age youth participated in the first annual Walk for Life Youth Rally. Millions of people across the world heard the message of Walk for Life and Walk for Life Youth Rally on national television days later when EWTN's Life on the Rock aired an hour long segment covering the two events.
"Am I really alone in thinking abortion is wrong? Walk for Life Youth Rally helped me be confident in my pro-life beliefs because thousands of other young people from high school to college age were there to learn how they can better stand for life in their own way. Not only did we learn how to be pro-life on a daily basis, we participated in praise in worship giving honor to our creator. In addition we were reminded by speaker Dr. Michael Barber that in order to protect life we must remember this is God's work." Michael Padilla, Age 19 San Jose, CA

Now, in order for Walk for Life Youth Rally to happen again we need an additional $12,000 in order to have our event in the prime location of Fort Mason adjascent to Marina Green, where Walk for Life ends. Can you support this event by donating? Whether your donation is $5 or $1,000 every bit counts and we could use every penny!

By donating you will help bring the next generation of pro-life advocates to the forefront of the pro-life movement where they will stand to protect innocent children in the womb and show that woman deserve better than abortion.

To donate:

Please make the check payable to: SF Archdiocese, Respect Life Program
For: Walk for Life Youth Rally

Mailing address is:

ALERT: Historic Vote To De-Fund Planned Parenthood

An historic vote will take place Thursday April 14, 2011.  The Senate will decide whether or not to de-fund Planned Parenthood of more than $363 million dollars in annual funding -- which is payed for with your tax dollars.

Whether you are pro-abortion or pro-life we can all agree that our country is broke and we need to eliminate spending, so let’s not pay for birth control and abortion provided through this funding!

In a recent email sent out by Planned Parenthood they said, “Any elected official who votes for this extreme proposal is voting against access to lifesaving cancer screenings, HIV testing, and birth control.”  The truth of the matter is that there are many other organizations that we as a country could fund that perform  cancer screenings and HIV testing, but without exploiting women through human trafficking or rape.  A woman who wants to use birth control can pay for it herself -- we don’t need to pay for a woman’s birth control!

Urge your senators to not allow Congress to continue to fund the illegal activities of Planned Parenthood and to not buy into Planned Parenthood’s lies.  Women will continue to be loved and cared for even without the funding of Planned Parenthood.  Find you senators phone number here!

See some of the horrific things Planned Parenthood has done!  Stay informed and spread the word:

Unplanned Chapter 11, 'The Boardroom'

During this chapter the true roots of the pro-abortion movement are shown, not the mask of ‘a woman’s right to choose’ or concern for ‘women’s health’ which pro-abortion advocates claim as their mission.

During meetings regarding Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at the affiliate office, Abby Johnson and other clinic directors were told it was time to get revenue up since their Title XX funding was already used up for the year.  This eliminated discounted or even free birth control for lower income women.  Abby was appalled at the thought of women having to be pregnant with babies they couldn't afford.  Abby reflected on how different things became once revenue was the primary goal, versus providing services for women.

"Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race."
Planned Parenthood Founder, Margaret Sanger, Woman, Morality, and Birth Control. New York: New York Publishing Company, 1922. Page 12.

During a meeting to discuss Abby's clinic's budget goals she was told she had to significantly increase her abortion client intake.  You might ask why?  Because abortions aren’t cheap and any abortion provider brings in high dollar revenue from abortions; the average abortion in the first trimester costs $300.  This abortion quota contradicted the rhetoric that initially lured Abby Johnson to Planned Parenthood.  The original trap that Planned Parenthood of reducing abortion numbers no longer seemed a goal amongst the organization; their demand for abortions was vital to their budget.  Abby did not like the idea of generating revenue by providing abortions as the new goal at her clinic, and insisted that abortion would not take priority over serving women.

Abby wrote in Unplanned about how Planned Parenthood was born to help women in need, especially with issues concerning issues of birth control and abortion. But this isn’t the truth.  If you take a few minutes to look back at, the founder of Planned Parenthood founder, Magaret Sanger’s personal views, you will begin to understand the true evil behind the pro-abortion movement and how rhetoric over the years has masked this horrific mission.

I strongly recommend you read a few of these many quotes from Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger.

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
Margaret Sanger's December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts. Original source: Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College, North Hampton, Massachusetts. Also described in Linda Gordon's Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976.

"Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need ... We must prevent multiplication of this bad stock."
Margaret Sanger, April 1933 Birth Control Review.

As an advocate of birth control I wish ... to point out that the unbalance between the birth rate of the 'unfit' and the 'fit,' admittedly the greatest present menace to civilization, can never be rectified by the inauguration of a cradle competition between these two classes. In this matter, the example of the inferior classes, the fertility of the feeble-minded, the mentally defective, the poverty-stricken classes, should not be held up for emulation....
On the contrary, the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.
Margaret Sanger. "The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda." Birth Control Review, October 1921, page 5.

Action Alert: Does your university’s health care pay for abortions?

Are your tax dollars paying for abortion through student financial aid such as the Pell Grant?

A recent study conducted by Students for Life of America reveals that 45.5% of university health care plans pay for students to have abortions.  Not only in crisis pregnancy cases, but a student may obtain an abortion for any reason and it will be covered through her university health care plan.  This does not only involve students.  Your tax dollars are paying for abortions as well through the federal Pell Grant, which many students use to help fund their education. Pell Grants help students pay for attendance fee; if the university has their health care plan paid for through attendance then money from the Pell Grant is funding elective abortion procedures which are then offered to student.

So here is what you should do:
  1. Click here to find out if your university health care covers abortions.
  2. If your university does not cover abortions we recommend writing a letter to the school president thanking him and explaining why.
  3. If your school isn’t listed on here you should contact your school immediately to find out if abortions are covered under their health care plans.  Please contact Students for Life to share if your school funds abortions too.
If you find that your school funds abortion you should:
  1. Contact Students for Life immediately and they will help you to educate your campus.
  2. Write a letter to the president of your school explaining your opposition.
  3. Organize a student meeting to inform your campus of the abortion coverage and why you shouldn’t have to pay for abortions through your health care.
For more ideas of what to do go to NoAbortionInHealthcare.com

Stand with millions of other students to oppose abortion coverage in your health care plan!
